Marvel’s Black Panther movie is helping us celebrate Black History Month like never before! Ever since the trailer to Black Panther was released in the summer of 2017, Black people all over the globe have been on the EDGE. OF. OUR. SEATS waiting for it’s release! For the first time in HISTORY, movie-goers will be treated to a superhero movie with an ALL BLACK CAST! Even the Director (Ryan Coogler, Creed) is Black! The soundtrack is produced by one of the most unapologetically Black Hip Hop artists of the 21st century, Kendrick Lamar (who just cleaned up at the 2018 Grammys)! The movie is set in Africa in the fictional land of Wakanda.
When photos of the most “swagged out” Hollywood movie premiere event in history emerged at the end of January, excitement for the movie rose to a fever pitch! Disney requested “Royal Attire” for the film’s premiere and Black Hollywood DID NOT disappoint! Here are some of our favorite looks from the Black Panther Premiere:
As you can see, the cast of Black Panther has set the bar HIGH! We are just 2 weeks away from seeing our fantasy homeland “Wakanda” come to life, and thanks to the massive slayage displayed at the film’s premiere, social media has been buzzing with memes and much conversation regarding what people are planning to wear to go see Black Panther.
I thought I had the general concept of my outfit planned, but then I learned that Lupita Nyong’o is playing a butt-kicking warrior named “Nakia” in the movie! This is literally the 2nd time in LIFE that I have ever seen or heard of a character with my name in a major Hollywood movie (the 1st was the young girl who played Vivica Fox’s daughter in Kill Bill during her fight scene with Uma Thurman, and she was only on screen for like 60 seconds)! So yeah, I’ve gotta represent!
